aldi-006.jpgWhile traveling home after my appointment at Healthtrax Fitness Center, my friends and I stopped at Staples in Raynham for I needed some ink for my printer. We noticed that right next to Staples is a new supermarket we never heard of before. It is called ALDI Food Market. We went inside and found it very wheelchair accessible.

aldi-007.jpgThere are plenty of handicap parking spaces located in the plaza’s parking lot close to the entrance. The entrance has two sets of automatic entry doors; both doors are my favorite kind of automatic doors for the doors slide wide open as soon as you approach.

aldi-014.jpgOnce inside the store we looked around and were happy to see that the aisles are spacious and wide with plenty of room to maneuver my chair. Most items were placed within my reach. This food market is a very different kind of supermarket; it’s smaller than the bigger food chains; it sells mostly groceries and dry goods; but we did see an aisle with miscellaneous items such as a DVD player, a digital frame, bike gear, toys and even some children clothes all at good prices too.

aldi-017.jpgAfter shopping, we approached the check-out counter to purchase a few items we needed. The check-out counter is of a good height for wheelchair-seated customers; I could easily reach it and complete my transaction with ease.

ALDI only accepts cash, a PIN number-activated debit card, or the EBT/Food Stamp card as payment. The Debit Card/ Transaction Machine a little high but manageable for someone in a wheelchair to reach.  We were told they don’t accept any kinds of coupons, either since their prices already so low.

Before leaving I checked out the restrooms and they are perfect. The restrooms are spacious, wheelchair accessible and fully ADA compliant. I could easily reach the automatic soap and towel dispenser as well.

I asked the cashier for a phone number as I always include it in all my reviews but was told that the ALDI stores don’t have a phone; there is a corporate phone number you can call for information on products or other help. I also found out that ALDI is a discount supermarket chain based in Germany. The name ALDI is short for “ALbrecht DIscount”.

I give ALDI Food Market FIVE STARS for wheelchair accessibility!
