Recently, Kevin, Kellie and I went to Bailey’s Surf “N” Turf, a family owned and operated restaurant since 1988. We were pleased to find this restaurant fully wheelchair accessible.

Three handicap parking spaces are conveniently located right in front of the building. There is a front and side entrance; both entrances have two doors you will need help with opening for neither is automatic.

We were greeted by a friendly hostess who seated us at a table in the lounge. Inside this lounge are plenty of accessible tables, inaccessible booths and an inaccessible bar.

ADA does not require a bar to be accessible but Kenny & co believe a section of a bar should be accessible to wheelers.

The tables are all of a perfect height for my chair; I can comfortably fit my legs underneath and easily reach my food and drink. Many Flat screen TV’s are hung on the wall and easy for me to see. One of the TV’s has the most recent Keno numbers.

There’s an additional dining room with accessible tables. Our very kind waitress told us that a function room is open on the weekends and also during the summer. The service was good. The food was great.

The restroom is wheelchair accessible and fully ADA compliant. The paper towel dispenser and soap dispenser are placed at a good height and easy for me to reach. The only problem is the trash barrel stored under the accessible blocks access for me to use the sink; Kevin removed it so I could wash my hands.

I give Bailey’s Surf “N” Turf FOUR STARS for wheelchair accessibility. In order to earn the Fifth Star they would need to install automatic entry doors; lower a section of the bar to a wheelchair accessible height; and move the trash barrel from under the accessible restroom sink. Though there are plenty of accessible tables, it would be nice to see accessible booth.
