Barbyann’s Restaurant is very wheelchair accessible. There are only a few minor things that they would have to do to make it even more suitable for people with disabilities. The first thing is to make the entry doors that go inside automatic, the second is to not make it so dark in the restaurant itself, and the third one is the saloon doors going into the restroom, where I personally got trapped needs to be changed. But once you get into the restroom it is very wheelchair suitable.
The handicap parking is very close to the entry door and very close to the ramp that leads to the entry door. As I got inside I got a warm cozy feeling because it was so dark in there and it’s a very good restaurant if you try to be romantic! The tables were very well set up for my wheelchair to fit underneath and our waitress was very friendly and actually sat down and talked to me by using my name. I actually knew her from high school.
Now for the humorous part of the night! I ended up getting lobster for dinner and felt like a complete idiot because I had to wear a bib to eat my lobster! Butter was dripping down my chin and I was making it look very delicious to lobster lovers. I came out of there feeling very full and very disgusting after eating a stuffed quahog, a lobster and a hot fudge sundae, and the only thing I did not finish was the sundae. And they do make very good potent drinks which I know by experience
Nicole gives TWO STARS to Barbyann’s TWO STARS for wheelchair accessibility. Automatic doors, better lighting (at least in certain areas) and easier access to the restrooms would help this great restaurant earn the other Three Stars from The Traveling Wheelchair.
