My friends and I went to dinner at Betsy’s Diner in Falmouth and decided to do a wheelchair accessibility review. As we pulled into the parking lot we had no trouble finding a handicap parking space.
There is a wide wheelchair accessible ramp leading up to the door but once you get to the door to go in, the first door opens one way and then there is a second door that opens the opposite way so my friends had to hold the doors open while trying to help me maneuver my w/c in the small door frame. Once inside I saw that the aisles were narrow probably because of the Diner setting.
The height of the table was just right, but the lighting was a little dim. When the server came over he first addressed my friends who then said to me “Nicole” please let him what you would like. I ordered the fried clam plate and to my surprise the portion was huge and is was very good. The service was timely and the server checked to make sure we had what we needed.
As for the restroom it is not big enough for a wheelchair and a staff assist if needed. The toilet is too low to the floor and the sink is to high for a wheelchair. There are two safety grab bars but not within reach. The pipes under the sink were not covered as is now ADA required but the restroom was clean.
All in all I give this place TWO STARS. They can earn the other Three Stars if they install automatic doors that swing the same way for it would make it easier to get in. Also if there was more lighting directly over the tables it would make it a lot easier for the visually impaired to read the menu. Another way to receive a higher rating would be to make the needed adjustments to the restroom to meet the disabled needs.

Not to mention the extra star they could get for asking you what you want to eat and speaking to you directly instead of asking your friends what you want. 8-)
