box-seat-014.jpgAfter leaving Ride-Away in North Attleboro, my mom took my friends and I to lunch at Boxseats in North Attleboro. We were disappointed to find it is ONLY partially wheelchair accessible.

box-seat-015.jpgThere are two handicap parking spaces, located close to the wheelchair accessible ramp. Amanda found it difficult to push my manual chair up this ramp; for it is steeper than most other ramps. We believe it is too steep for a person in a wheelchair to independently wheel up this ramp.

box-seat-018.jpgYou will need help with opening two sets of entry doors for neither door is automatic. The first door leads into a foyer and the second into the restaurant.

box-seat-019.jpgOnce inside, I noticed this restaurant has multi level seating areas. To the right of the hostess desk is a bar, lounge and seating area; it is NOT accessible for there are steps; from the lounge are more inaccessible steps, leading to a sunroom with dining tables.

box-seat-023.jpgTo the left of the hostess desk is a dining room; located here are many booths which are not wheelchair accessible for a pole holding up the table blocks access. There are two large dining tables in this room which are accessible; these two dining tables are of a perfect height for my wheelchair.

box-seat-022.jpgAnother dining area is located on an upper level from this dining room. It has wheelchair accessible tables but there is NO wheelchair access to this area for again there are steps.

box-seat-020.jpgThe restroom is spacious; the handicap stall is large enough to accommodate a wheelchair; the accessible sink is not accessible for there are baskets underneath, which block wheelchair access to the sink; the soap and paper towel dispenser are placed too high on the wall where I cannot reach.

The food was just ok and the service was very slow.

I give BoxSeats TWO STARS for wheelchair accessibility. In order to earn the other Three Stars, they would need to lessen the slope of the wheelchair accessible ramp; install automatic entry doors; provide access to all dining areas, the bar and lounge by replacing the steps with a sloped walkway; remove the baskets under the accessible sink and lower the soap and towel dispenser, located in the restrooms.
