Brennan’s Smoke Shop in Middleborough

Brennan’s Smoke Shop is new business in downtown Middleborough that is NOT wheelchair accessible due to a small step at the front entry door. There is no alternate entry door in the rear. I don’t smoke yet I’m sure others in wheelchairs who do smoke would appreciate access to this store. If we brought my EZ Access Threshold Ramp that came with my
EZ Access Suitcase Ramp I would have been able to get into the store.
The EZ Access Threshold Ramp is 36″ wide, portable, lightweight, durable and free-standing.
It’s ideal for doorways and raised steps; it’s adjustable for heights ranging from ¾” to 6″ high. It’s intended for indoor or outdoor use.
Once Again! Under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, “businesses that provide goods and services to the public are already required to remove structural barriers to access by people with disabilities when removal is “readily achievable”. A one step entrance is considered “readily achievable”. The ONLY Massachusetts city or town that I know of who enforces this is the
Cambridge Commission for Persons with Disabilities and Cambridge Human Rights Commission due to an ‘ordinance amendment’ the Cambridge City Council unanimously passed on March 3, 2008. The town of Middleborough does not have an ordinance amendment which allows enforcement of the ADA.
I give Brennan’s Smoke Shop ZERO STARS for wheelchair accessibility. In order to earn any Stars, they would first need to replace the step with a cement slope so persons in wheelchairs can access the store. OR they could place an EZ Access Threshold Ramp at the step which would allow wheelchair access to the store.

Hi, my name is Geoffrey and i wanted to let you know that the new Brennan’s comming soon to Raynham Marketplace is handicap accessible. Also our store in Plymouth aswell as Pembroke and Brockton are accessible. Unfortunetly our Wareham store is not. I love your ramp, it will surly help alot of businesses to make it better for hadicapped customers, but the front door in Wareham isn’t wide enough for a wheel chair. None the less my guy in charge of our Wareham store is very friendly and very knowledgable about tobacco and he would be more than happy to help any of our challenged customers from the door. Again, I love your ramp it looks great, but i am personally trying to make sure all of our stores in the future are easilly accessible for everyone. As far as the other so called Brennan’s Smoke Shop’s I can’t speak for them they are owned by someone else. If you visit the original Brennan’s Smoke Shop’s Plymouth, Pembroke, Brockton, Wareham, and comming soon to Raynham Marketplace (Rt. 44) the differences are really obvious. Again the only original Brennan’s that is not accessible is Wareham and that is because the door isn’t wide enough. Sincerly, Geoffrey Brennan
