Recently when Ric, Amanda and I were at
Providence Place Mall I saw the ‘Build a Bear’ workshop and decided to check it out. It caught my attention as soon as I saw they have a Hannah Montana Bear in the window and I’m a big Hannah Montana fan!
Entering this store is easy for the doors are kept wide open during mall hours. The aisles are wide and very spacious. I had no trouble wheeling my chair up and down the aisles and I could reach most items off the shelves myself.
All the employees are very nice and very willing to help you if you need any assistance. One very kind employee came over to me and asked me if I needed any help. I thanked her and told her I was just browsing.
It was cool to see they had Bears in Wheelchairs on display. I think its great the wheelchair is an option for the bears because it will help children realize some need to use a wheelchair to get around :>) This Wheelchair can be added to any bear creation.
We also enjoyed seeing the New England Patriots uniform option for your bear especially since we’re all big Patriot fans. Ric took a picture of me holding the New England Patriot player’s uniform and of Amanda holding the New England Patriot cheerleader’s outfit you can put on your bear.
I give Build A Bear Workshop at Providence Place Mall FIVE STARS for wheelchair accessibility. All the employees here get FIVE STARS for being so kind, sensitive and helpful!

This is great-just tweeted about your post because I wasn’t aware they offered wheelchairs. Really happy about what hope that holds for our future generations and acceptance.

Hi Kara,
I was delighted to see the wheelchair option as well because it will help young children learn acceptance and understanding of disability at an early age.
In the 1990′s Barbie came out with three dolls who were in wheelchairs and I have collected all three.
1996 – Share a Smile Becky
1998 – School Photographer Becky
1999 – Paralympic Champion Becky
It’s a shame that Barbie hasn’t come out with a new doll in a wheelchair for the past 10 years.
By the way, I love the Disaboom website – http://www.disaboom.com/ I’ve always had it listed on my ‘Links’ page and just added it under ‘Kenny’s Links’ on my main page.

Hi Kenny,
Great review and I love the wheelchair for the teddy bears!! I teach special needs students and some use wheelchairs. I’ve often seen them teased simply because healthy young children haven’t been exposed or taught about disability. If our children are exposed to toys like this then they may learn to accept disabilities when they are young and hopefully the misconceptions will no longer exist.
