bunker-hill-117.jpgAfter seeing Bunker Hill Monument my friends and I decided to take a look at the Bunker Hill Museum which is right across the street. I was really pleased to find this museum fully wheelchair accessible! There are some handicap parking spaces on the street conveniently close to the museum. The automatic entry doors are big and historic. I first entered a foyer that has a map of the museum showing what is located on each of the 3 floors.

bunker-hill-122.jpgThis museum is a National Park Service. Admission is FREE! A spacious elevator will take you to all 3 floors. This elevator has two doors, one on either side; I wheeled in forward and when it stopped on the other floors, I wheeled right out, still facing forward, without needing to turn my chair.

bunker-hill-127.jpgThe first floor restrooms are spacious and fully ADA Compliant. The sink, soap dispenser and hand towels are all at a good height and within my reach. The water fountain/bubbler is of a wheelchair accessible height.

The second level has a some small exhibits. This level is very spacious and easy to maneuver my chair around.

bunker-hill-124.jpgThere is also a gift shop/book store on this level. I had lots of fun as I shopped around looking at all the cool souvenirs. The cashier counter is of a wheelchair accessible height.

All the main exhibits are located on the third floor. Here, I learned about the Revolutionary War and the very important role that Boston played in the war. Exhibits are all easy to access. I loved the hands-on exhibits the museum has as I was able to touch a real revolutionary era drum. There is also a miniature replica of the war and it is narrated so visually impaired can hear. Plus there is closed caption for the hearing impaired. I love it when exhibits are ACCESSIBLE TO ALL!

I highly recommend all who travel to Boston visit this great museum.

I give Bunker Hill Museum FIVE STARS for wheelchair accessibility.
