On May 24th Jamie and his crew visited the Buttonwood Zoo in New Bedford, M.A. In the parking lot of this zoo, we found plenty of handicap parking.
The Buttonwood Zoo had ramps leading to the entrance door with a handicap sticker on the front letting people know that the zoo was wheelchair accessible. The entry of the two doors was automatic and spacious enough for a wheelchair to easily get through into the lobby of the zoo. The two doors may be difficult for someone alone in a wheelchair once going in between the doors.
When going to the restroom, we found that the accessible sink was too low. Also, the bathrooms stalls were quite small if a single person in a wheelchair needed assistance in the limited space. The staff members at the zoo were pleasant and helpful throughout the trip. The overall visit of the zoo was very enjoyable by Jamie and his crew! Jamie’s favorite part of the zoo was visiting the elephants! There were plenty of shady areas to relax and enjoy the various sounds of the animals and escape from the sun.
Jamie and his crew give Buttonwood Zoo FOUR STARS for wheelchair accessibility!! They would just need to install a larger handicap stall and a higher wheelchair accessible sink in the restroom to earn the Fifth Star. We will be back to see you soon Ellie the elephant!
