cabby-shack-kenny-in-crab.jpgToday, my Aunt Nancy, my friends and I traveled to Plymouth to try and catch a cool ocean breeze and escape the hot sizzling heat. Yet, it wasn’t even that cool by the ocean today! We had lunch at Cabby Shack for it’s located right on the harbor. We also wanted to assess Cabby Shack for wheelchair accessibility.

cabby-shack-post-ramp.jpgCabby Shack has a very wide wheelchair ramp which has a turn leading to the main entry door. The ramp is an easy slope upward and the turn is wide so you shouldn’t have a problem maneuvering your wheelchair going up or down the ramp. The main entry door is a wide single door, which my wheelchair easily fit through.

cabby-shack-post-door.jpgThe entry door is not automatic so my friends held it open for me. I really hope one day that all public places realize how important it is for the disabled to access through automatic doors. If you go here alone you will need to wait and ask someone to open the door for you. And we all know it can be humiliating to have to ask a stranger for help just to open a door.

cabby-shack-ric-and-kenny.jpgWe chose to eat inside to get away from the heat.  The table inside that I ate at was of a good height for my wheelchair and I had no trouble fitting under it. There is a great out door patio with a great breeze there. The tables are plastic outdoor tables but are a good height for most wheelchairs. They also have umbrellas to protect you from the hot sun. There is a lounge/eating area inside next to the outdoor area. This area has high bar tables and bar that is too high for a wheelchair, but it also has tables that are a good height for a wheelchair in this area too.

cabby-shack-lounge-5.jpgThere is a wide variety of food dishes listed on the menu. The seafood was fresh, delicious and reasonably priced. You can purchase a Cabby Shack Dining Discount Card for $35. It is valued at $300. Check out their website listed above for more details. Since I go to Plymouth often, I think I will buy a discount card for it is a great deal.

cabby-shac-bikers.jpgI think a lot of people headed to the ocean today to try to escape the heat. There was a group of bikers right outside the Cabby Shack on the pier. Their motor cycles were loud and it was hard for me to hear my friends talking yet,  I didn’t mind for the bikers were all nice and friendly guys.

cabby-shack-restrroms.jpgThe restrooms are very spacious and easy to manuever my wheelchair around. They also have a large handicap stall with the required safety grab bars. Yet, the accessible sinks don’t have the protective covering around the pipes as is now ADA required.

cabby-shack-post-view.jpgThe Cabby Shack also has an upper deck which is wheelchair accessible. We were told that there is an elevator from first floor to the deck. My friend Josh went up the stairs to take some pictures of the view. He told me that the view from up there was spectacular, as you can see from some of these pictures that he took.

cabby-shack-forefathers.jpgHe told me that he could see much of the harbor and even see the Our Forefathers Monument. Cabby Shack also has bands playing live music most nights. I love music so I think I’ll go there one night with my friends. ( Cabby Shack - Second Floor)

I give Cabby Shack THREE STARS. They could earn the other Two Stars if they installed automatic doors and placed protective covering around the exposed pipes under the accessible sinks in the restroom. It is a restaurant that I would recommend to all who visit Plymouth.
