After attending the
State House Rally For New Revenue to Save Disability Services, my mom, Kate, Ric and I headed to the office of Cambridge Human Rights Commission. We arrived at the Cambridge City Hall Annex, located in the McCusker Building and discovered we were in the wrong building! We still reviewed the City Hall Annex for wheelchair accessibility and found it perfectly accessible.
Handicap parking spaces are located on the city street right next to the building; with close wheelchair access to the sidewalk. The side entrance is not wheelchair accessible for it has steps.
The front entrance is fully wheelchair accessible; it has a side ramp and the side door is automatic with a simple push of a button.
Inside the lobby is spacious; a sign lists all the city offices located in this building.
We went to a customer service window to ask the location of the Cambridge Human Rights Commission office and were told it was next door. There are six customer service windows. The middle two are of a perfect height for my chair. The employee was very courteous, kind and friendly.
An elevator, located in the lobby will take you to all levels so all city offices are accessible in this building. A single wheelchair accessible restroom is located in a hall off the lobby. It is spacious and fully ADA compliant; even the pipes under the accessible sink are covered which is a new ADA requirement. A water bubbler in the lobby is also of a good wheelchair accessible height.
I give Cambridge City Hall Annex FIVE STARS for wheelchair accessibility!!
