I thought I would do a review on something a little different. This is my review on Cape Cod Five Savings Bank and how handicapped accessible it is. First off, the parking is great. It’s very close to the entrance of the bank. There also is a ramp which makes it convenient for someone in a wheelchair to get to the entrance (and it’s perfect).
There’s is a couple of problems when you get to the doors. First, the doors are not automatic and second there are two sets of doors and with both of those it would make it very hard for someone in a wheelchair to enter without assistance. So, my friend had to hold open the first doors while I went through and then I waited for her to get to the second set of door. And she had to hold those open while I went through again. And she had to do the same again when we were leaving. The width of the doors is fine.
Once inside the bank, there is plenty of room for someone in a wheelchair to get around without any problems. There as an island in the middle of the bank to do some banking things, but the problem is it much too high for someone in a wheelchair to do their banking paper work. There are small tables off to the side along with comfortable chairs but those are for people waiting to be helped if opening an account or something like that. And those tables are much too low for me to be able to use. If I had to fill anything out, then I would have to go to the island to get the correct papers, but then I do not know where I would fill them out. (thankfully, since this is my regular bank , I have deposit and withdrawal slips at home and fill them out there before going to the bank) Also the counters where you give the tellers your banking things are also much too high.
As far as the bathrooms go, there wasn’t a need for me to use them, but I asked about them. I was told the bathrooms are upstairs and no elevators to get to them. I was also told they were not handicapped accessible.
The lighting is perfect for someone visually impaired, it’s very bright. The staff are all very friendly and helpful, they looked directly at me when answering my questions.
My rating for Cape Cod Five Savings Bank is TWO STARS for handicapped accessibility. They could earn a star if they put in automatic doors. They could also earn another star by having accessible bathrooms and by lowering their counters or maybe having a handicap counter they could earn the last star.
