I give Charles Playhouse ZERO STARS for wheelchair accessibility. Charles Playhouse is not wheelchair accessible at all! There is no handicap parking; disabled persons would have to be dropped off while the driver (or the handicapped person them self) parked the car elsewhere; which could be blocks away; and an evening you’ve looked forward to turns into a huge disappointment.
Once you get to the Playhouse there are no automatic doors, and on top of that you have to climb 25 STAIRS to get into the theatre to see the show. Since there is no elevator you would have to have a very strong person carry you up the 25 stairs; this is a safety issue. This could also be hazardous to a visually impaired person. Even if the building is old, this is the 21st Century, and they should put a little more effort into making the Playhouse accessible to everyone and not just to the able bodied.
For years now I have wanted to see The Blue Man Group, and when we called to order tickets they told us that Charles Playhouse was not wheelchair accessible. What a let down! I’m frustrated and angry that such a big show as The Blue Man Group does not take place in a handicap friendly building. I still hope and pray that before too long maybe there will be a way for me to see The Blue Man Group in Boston and in person.
I’m sorry to write such a negative review. I think it’s very important to speak up for the disabled population, since if we don’t- nothing will be done. We have come a long way, but there are still changes that need to be made to make our every-day experience equal, beautiful and easier.

Hi Nichole,
What a disapointing experience this must have been! The Charles Playhouse seats 700 between both floors, you would think that something would have been done by now to create good safe access for individuals with disabilities. Did you try and call this phone #-All questions regarding services for patrons with special needs should be directed to The Charles Playhouse theater staff at 617-426-6912, to see what the Playhouse staff have in place for providing access for individuals with disabilities?

Nicole, I’m so sorry that this place is not accessible. I think The Blue Man Group and others should stop performing at inaccessible places…maybe then the Charles Playhouse would act on accessibility and put in an elevator..I’m sure they make enough money off the tickets to afford access. Liz

We called the number you mentioned and they were not much help at all. We were told that since the building is historical that there wasn’t much they could do to change it and make it more accessible for people with disabilities. Unfortunately, this is the way it is.

Thank you for helping. Please let me know what you find out.

How ironic that a review rightfully blasting the Charles Playhouse for its inaccessibility has right next to it this Google ad: “Shear Madness Tickets Hailed As Best Comedy Of The Year It Would Be Madness To Miss It!” playing at…
the Charles Playhouse!

This is a great post. Amazing, acting really is incredible. I personally am excited as heck to see Brooklyn’s Finest. It’s going to be about Brooklyn cops. Really psyched!
