ibot-day-004.jpgMy friends and I headed to Massasoit Community College in Brockton today to see a demo of an iBOT wheelchair but when we arrived we realized we had the wrong date! While we were in Brockton we passed by Christo’s and decided to stop for a bite to eat. Christo’s, a well known restaurant in Brockton has been in business since 1964 and specializes in Greek and Mediterranean dishes and Pizza but it is only partially wheelchair accessible. There is a large parking lot in the rear of the building that has eight handicap parking spaces right up front.

ibot-day-006.jpgThe main entry doors are located at the front and side of the building and neither is wheelchair accessible for both entry doors have a few steps. There is no access way from the parking lot to the sidewalk that leads to the entry doors.

ibot-day-001.jpgThe rear entry door is the only wheelchair accessible entrance at this restaurant. There are two rear entry doors that you will need help with opening for both are very heavy and not automatic. This rear entry leads you into the bar/lounge. Inside this room there a only a few tables that are wheelchair accessible because most of the tables are located at a higher level that you can only access by walking up  2 steps. The bar is not wheelchair accessible for it is too high and doesn’t have an area lowered for wheelchair access like some bars now have.

A loaner wheelchair is available inside this restauant so if you have difficulty walking there is a wheelchair for you to use.

ibot-day-003.jpgA dining area in the rear of Christo’s is wheelchair accessible and the tables are a perfect height for my wheelchair. Our waitress was very friendly and took the time to listen to me place my order. The food and service was great.

Christo’s has two restrooms. The restroom located in the front of the restaurant is not wheelchair accessible at all. My wheelchair can’t even fit through the door. The front dining room is not accessible either for there are 2 steps leading down to this area and no wheelchair accessible ramp.

ibot-day-007.jpgThe restroom by the rear entry door is wheelchair accessible. It has a large handicap stall with the ADA required safety bars. There are 4 sinks and 1 sink is lower and wheelchair accessible. The pipes under the accessible sink are not covered as is now an ADA requirement.

I give Christo’s TWO STARS for wheelchair accessibility. In order to earn the other Three Stars they need to install a ramp at one of the main entries, make the sidewalk wheelchair accessible that leads to the main entry, place sloped flooring or ramps next to all the areas that have steps inside the restaurant and place protective covering around the exposed pipes under the accessible sink in the rear restroom.
