Yesterday, Kellie, Kevin and I traveled to Chinatown in Boston to do some wheelchair accessibility reviews. After we parked, we were very disappointed with the lack of wheelchair accessibility of the sidewalks in this section of Boston, as well as many of the businesses that are not accessible.
I couldn’t get my wheelchair onto the sidewalk because the access slope to the sidewalk was blocked with ice and snow. The sidewalk on both sides of this street did have a shoveled path but because there was no access, we had to travel along the street :<)
After eating lunch at Chau Chow City restaurant, we came upon Crown City Bakery. We all thought, what a great place to grab some desert! We could not see any wheelchair access due to the stairs leading to the entry door. My friend Kellie went inside to ask if there was another entrance that was accessible, only to be told that there is NO wheelchair accessible entrance to this bakery :<)
I give Crown City Bakery ZERO STARS for wheelchair accessibility. In order to earn any Stars, they would need to install an accessible ramp or wheelchair lift.
I again give the City of Boston ZERO STARS for lack of wheelchair accessibility on the sidewalks. The City Of Boston should pay closer attention to keeping the wheelchair access to the sidewalks clear of snow and widen the shoveled paths on the sidewalks to a wheelchair accessible width.
