daisy-buchannan-boston-march-8-2010-001.jpgAfter leaving the Apple Store in Boston my mom, Ric, Tony and I headed to our van that we parked on Newbury Street. We were looking for a place to have lunch and came upon Daisy Buchanan’s. Daisy Buchanan’s serves lunch and dinner starting at 11:30 am. I was really exited about eating here! I’ve heard Daisy’s is one of the most popular bars in Boston and was awarded best celebrity bar in Boston by Dirty Water TV. Then we saw Daisy Buchanan’s is NOT wheelchair accessible due to steps leading down to the entry door.

A very kind employee told us he could help get my wheelchair down the stairs. We explained it would be too difficult and proceeded down Newbury Street hoping to find an accessible place to stop for a bite to eat. Sadly there are many places on Newbury Street that are not wheelchair accessible.

daisy-buchannans-boston-04.jpgWe all thought it is a shame this place doesn’t have a wheelchair lift at the stairway. AmericaGlide and other manufacturers offer these lifts at a reasonable cost. Some are even portable which can easily be set up and then stored away when not in use; allowing businesses to provide safe and convenient access to persons with disabilities. You can view various options @ http://www.ameriglide.com/Vertical-Platform-Lifts.htm.

If you’re looking for a bar to celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day today and are in a wheelchair, don’t bother going to Daisy Buchanan’s on Newbury Street because you’ll just be disappointed you can’t get inside :-(

I give Ciao Bella on Newbury Street ZERO STARS for wheelchair accessibility. In order to earn any Stars they would need to provide wheelchair access to the pub which could easily be done by placing a wheelchair lift at the stairway.
