The lives of millions of people with disabilities can be changed with the passage of this initiative. We need to stand together as a proud community, and let President Obama know that this generation of people with disabilities will not allow generations that come after us to experience the lack of acceptance and abundance of ignorance that most of us have battled.

I wrote a play that provides background and foresight to the implementation of such a class, which you can read on the Ability tab @ http://thetravelingwheelchair.com/ability-studies/ .

This course would help showcase the abilities of all people. My script talks about a few different instances when I have experienced mistreatment, solely as a result of my disability. These are not the only times, but examples of what myself and others face on a day-to-day basis. It goes on to talk about a time that I dream of: the moment President Barack Obama signs a mandate into law for an Ability Studies class to be taught at schools across the United States of America.

Instituting such a course would help the disability community greatly by altering the untrue perceptions that are held by many people, which in turn will allow us to thrive as full-fledged citizens in our communities.

Please pass it on!
