dragonfly-deli-gourmet9.jpgAfter buying some bird seed at Wild Birds Unlimited in Easton, my friends and I went next door to buy a bottle of water at Dragonfly Deli & Gourmet. This deli is wheelchair accessible with some problems.

dragonfly-deli-gourmet42.jpgYou will need help with opening the double entry doors for they are not automatic. Inside is small but decorated nicely with an array of dragonflies everywhere. The counter where you place your food order is of a perfect wheelchair accessible height. Wheelchair accessible seating is a problem here. The countertop where customers dine has removable stools but it is too high for a wheeler to reach.

dragonfly-deli-gourmet41.jpgThe booths are all wheelchair accessible because the table is hung from wall; there is no pole holding the table that blocks access. The problem is that when you sit at the outside of the table, you block access to all other customers because the aisle is too narrow. The best kind of accessible booth is one that has a booth bench on one side and removable chairs on the other side where a wheeler can comfortably access the table.

The unisex single restroom is not wheelchair accessible; it is too small to fit a wheelchair; it is not at all ADA compliant; the toilet is too low; and there are no safety grab bars by the toilet.

The employees are all very kind.

I give Dragonfly Deli & Gourmet TWO STARS for wheelchair accessibility. In order to earn the other Three Stars, they would need to install automatic entry doors so a wheeler can enter independently; lower a small section of the countertop to a wheelchair accessible height for dining; replace one of the outer booth’s bench with removable chairs so a wheeler can access a table; and remodel the restroom so it is wheelchair accessible and ADA compliant.
