fan-pie-015.jpgAfter attending the United States District Court in Boston - Rolland Hearing at the John Joseph Moakley United States Courthouse my mom, Ric, Amanda and I took a stroll along the HarborWalk at Fan Pier. This courthouse, located right on the beautiful HarborWalk at Fan Pier has windows on the entire rear side of the building with a great view of the Boston Harbor Waterfront Park and the Boston skyline. We saw the beautiful walkway along the Boston Harbor from the windows inside the courthouse and couldn’t resist taking a stoll especially since it was such a beautiful sunny fall day.

This HarborWalk opened at Fan Pier in April, 2009. The Fan Pier site includes 1.5 acres of public green space and is part of the Boston Harbor walk. The HarborWalk at Fan Pier is fully wheelchair accessible and a great place to take a stroll. We passed a mom with triplets in a three-seated baby carriage enjoying a stroll on this sunny autumn day too. Moms with baby carriages enjoy accessible places just like us in wheelchairs.

fan-pie-0291.jpgThe HarborWalk has a wide pedestrian walkway of brick terrain which is easy to wheel along. The landscape is beautiful and the view of the Boston Harbor is breathtaking. We passed by some great restaurants located along the walkways. We didn’t stop at any restaurant for we ate in the café at the courthouse but plan on returning next summer to see how accessible these restaurants are.

fan-pie-022.jpgWe also saw a Boston Harbor Island Information Center. Another visitor taking a stroll told us Fan Pier is another place you can take a Boston Harbor Islands Ferry to one of the Boston Harbor Islands.

There is a wheelchair accessible ramp leading down to the dock where you board a ferry or a boat. I was pleased to see it is a floating dock which is my favorite kind of dock to board a boat because a floating dock goes up and down with the tides as does a boat so the dock is at the same level as the main deck of the boat making wheelchair access easy.

This floating dock reminded me of thedocks at the   MBTA Harbor Island Express - Quincy I took to Georges Island and the MBTA Harbor Island Express - Boston I took to Spectacle Island . You can find information on taking a ferry from Fan Pier to Boston Harbor Islands @ http://bostonharborislands.org/trip_3d_fanpier.html.

I give Fan Pier Five Stars for wheelchair accessibility. It’s a clean and beautiful place to take a stroll along the beautiful Boston Harbor waterfront!
