My friends and I often visit the waterfront at
Pilgrim Memorial State Park because it’s close to my home and an enjoyable place to wheel around. We almost always go on the pier where the Mayflower II is docked but never noticed this pier has a name until just this week.
When my mom, Ric, Tony and I went to see the
Peacemaker – The Twelve Tribes Tall Ship docked at this pier on Monday, we noticed there is a large rock located right in front of the pier. Tony jokingly said “maybe this is the real
Plymouth Rock ” :>). We noticed a plaque located on the front of this rock; which has engraved on it The Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the state emblem and the name The Frazier State Pier.
We later learned that in 2008 the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) invested approximately $350,000 of improvements at The Frazier State Pier. Improvements were made to the deck of the wooden pier and to the handrails to make sure they complied with current safety and accessibility standards. Information on other improvements made at Pilgrim Memorial State Park is available on DCR’s website at
http://www.mass.gov/dcr/.
The Frazier State Pier is very wheelchair friendly and accessible. Nearly 1 million visitors/tourists come to this pier every year and I’m sure all visitors in wheelchairs will appreciate the smooth wheeling on this wooden pier.
I give The Frazeier State Pier FIVE STARS for wheelchair accessibility!
