Before leaving Mashpee Commons Ric, Amanda and I stopped at Ghelfi’s Candies & Ice Cream and were pleased to find it wheelchair accessible. This shop has lots of treats if you have a sweet tooth ;) They serve ice cream, homemade candy, fudge, hand dipped chocolates, peanut brittle, mints, sugar free candies and much more!

There are plenty of handicap parking spaces in the Mashpee Commons parking lot.  The entry door is wide enough to fit my chair but not automatic so Amanda held it open while Ric pushed my manual chair inside. I found plenty of space to wheel my chair along the main aisle where customers line up to choose their flavor of ice cream. I could easily view all the flavors of ice creams and sweets for sale.

The employees are very kind, friendly and helpful; they even let me taste a sample of some ice cream flavors before I chose one to order.  I ordered a small dish of the ‘lobstah swirl’ ice cream which has small red colored pieces of pure milk chocolate and it was delicious! The cashier counter is of a good wheelchair accessible height and I had no problem handing the cashier my money.

Upon leaving, I found the last aisle too narrow to fit my chair because there isn’t enough space between the display counters. We felt bad because we had to ask all the customers standing in line to move so I could exit through the front aisle.

I give Ghelfi’s Candies FOUR STARS for wheelchair accessibility. In order to earn the Fifth Star they would need to install an automatic entry door so a customer in a wheelchair can enter and exit independently;  and move the displays in the last aisle just a little so there is enough space for a customer in a wheelchair to exit.
