Last week my mom treated me to a membership of  Healthtrax Fitness & Wellness Center  after seeing how fully wheelchair accessible it is as well as the great equipment/programs they have to offer to persons in wheelchairs.

This week I went to Healthtrax Fitness & Wellness Center on Monday, Tuesday and Friday and I must say that I felt absolutely WONDEFUL after exercise sessions with Matt, my Personal Trainer. Friday, I got to use the Therapy Pool and Steam Room so I decided to do a wheelchair accessibility review of both.

I was sooooo excited to get into the Therapy Pool. Before I was physically disabled I used to be an excellent swimmer and spent so much time in swimming pools. I even did triple flips off the high diving board! And I was even more excited to try the Steam Room for never in my life have I been in a Steam Room because I was too young to use one before I was physically disabled at age eleven. 

The Therapy Pool is awesome!!! It is fully wheelchair accessible for it has a lift that will put you in the pool and lift you back out. It is nice and warm for the temperature is set at 95 degrees. Matt, my personal trainer showed me how to do various exercises in the pool such as; standing on my feet; stretching my arms, legs and shoulders; and sitting up straight. I especially loved the part where I did the back float as I splashed my friends. It felt so good to be back in a pool!!!

After exercising in the Therapy Pool I had the wonderful opportunity to go into the Steam Room which was my first time ever.  Wow!! I loved it!  My wheelchair fit right inside for it is spacious. My friend Kevin and I had a great time relaxing while the room filled up with steam. It felt so nice and warm and great to build up a good sweat and clear all the impurities out of my body. 

Tony, our friend didn’t want to try it but he took a picture of us in the steam room. It was so steamy that we had to open the door for him to take a picture. We had lots of laughs! We then all took a shower and headed back home feeling clean and refreshed!

Joining the Healthtrax Fitness and Wellness Center is one of the best experiences I’ve had since I became disabled. I’m hoping to get into better shape too!!
