Hearth ‘n Kettle located inside
John Carver Inn in Plymouth is wheelchair accessible. One handicap parking space is located right in front of the entrance of the restaurant. You can enter this restaurant from inside the Inn or at the front outdoor entrance of the restaurant.
The two sets of entry doors are not automatic so you will need help with opening both sets of doors. Inside has dark wood paneling and I found it difficult to see because the lighting is dim.
A lounge/bar is off to the left of the entry doors. The bar is too high for a customer in a wheelchair yet there is accessible seating in this lounge for the tables are accessible and of a good height.
The dining room has some booths that are not wheelchair accessible for if you sit on the end; your wheelchair sticks out and blocks access to others; and your legs don’t fit under the table for the pole blocks your access. Yet don’t worry for there are plenty of wheelchair accessible dining tables that are all of a perfect height for a customer in a wheelchair.
The handicapped restroom located in a hall off the lobby of the Inn is spacious and ADA compliant except the piped under the accessible sink are not covered as is ADA required.
I did not eat here so I’m not sure how the service and food is. Yet I’ve heard everything is homemade and delicious!
I give this Hearth ‘n Kettle THREE STARS for wheelchair accessibility. To earn the other Two Stars they would need to install automatic entry doors so a person in a wheelchair can enter independently; brighten up the lighting so all customers can see more clearly; and lower a section of the bar to a wheelchair accessible height so a person in a wheelchair can sit at the bar and enjoy a drink like all other customers.
