My friends and I often stop for gas but usually don’t do a wheelchair accessibility review but this Hess Express is so wheelchair accessible that we decided to do a review today. There is a handicap parking space up front next to a wide cement wheelchair accessible ramp. The ramp has railings on both sides for added safety.

The entry door is not automatic so my friend Justin held it open for me. The store is very spacious and not too cluttered so there is plenty of room to maneuver a wheelchair around down all the aisles and around the store. The check out counter is a good height for my wheelchair and easy to make any transaction. The restroom is very wheelchair accessible. It is a large single restroom with all the ADA requirements met. The pipes under the accessible sink are covered and the water faucet it automatic as well as the hand drier.

The gas pump outside has a button with a wheelchair logo on it so if you need someone to come out and pump your gas just push the button. The employees can see clearly from the store if someone is at a pump and told us that they respond quickly when a disabled person needs help with pumping gas into their vehicle.

I give Hess Express FOUR STARS for wheelchair accessibility. They would just need to install automatic entry doors to earn the Fifth Star.
