holister-co-patriot-place-015.jpgLast week, Amanda, Ric and I met friends for lunch at CBS Scene at Patriot Place. After lunch we went to the Hollister Co. to find a Christmas gift for my good friend Douglas because he loves their style of clothing. We found wheelchair access at this Hollister Co. better than the Hollister Co. at Silver City GalleriaHollister Co. at Independence Mall and Hollister Co. at Dartmouth Mall. You can read our other Hollister Co. accessibility reviews by clicking on the stores named above.

Upon arriving, I was delighted to find there are NO STEPS at the main entrance. Hollister Co.’s typical signature style of construction includes steps to a porch-like entrance. The front entry doors are not automatic; yet a front side door is automatic with the simple push of a button. This door has a wheelchair accessible sign on the automatic push button which opens the door. Once inside this door I was pleased to find clear access with no clothing racks, displays or furniture in front of the door like  some of the other Hollister Co. stores I’ve been to.

I found almost all the aisles are wide enough to maneuver my chair with ease and I could easily view most of the merchandise, except for 2 aisles in the rear at both sides of the store are too narrow for my chair. I was disappointed to find the cashier counter is NOT wheelchair accessible for it is much too high just like it is in the other  Hollister Co. stores I’ve visited. The ATM/Debit/Credit Transaction Machine is NOT accessible for it is set too far back on this high counter and impossible for a customer in a wheelchair to reach. I found a great shirt I bought for Douglas’s Christmas gift but Ric had to help me pay for it because I couldn’t reach the cashier counter.

I give Hollister Co. at Patriots Place THREE STARS for wheelchair accessibility. In order to earn the other Two Stars they would need to lower a section of the cashier counter to a wheelchair accessible height so a person in a wheelchair can independently pay for their purchase; place the ATM/Debit/Credit Transaction Machine in an accessible place on the cashier counter; and widen the 2 aisles in the rear of the store so a customer in a wheelchair can access all the merchandise. To date this has been the most wheelchair accessible Hollister Co. store I’ve shopped at. Yet I’m not surprised because Patriot’s Place is a very wheelchair friendly outdoor shopping mall.
