Kenny’s Salt Water Taffy is located on the water at the Onset Town Pier and is only open during the summer months. It’s been around since the late 1865. I usually stop by when I’m at the Onset Town Pier for it’s right on the pier and a great place to have some lunch, an ice cream, salt water taffy, homemade fudge or just for a cool refreshing drink. Onset Town Pier). My friends and I decided to do a wheelchair accessibility review of the place since we are here so often.
Kenny’s Salt Water Taffy has a small inside area where you order your ice cream, lunch, or pick out the homemade fudge or taffy you want to buy. There are two entry doors from either side and neither door is wheelchair automatic so you will need help with opening the door. There is a counter where you order your lunch or ice cream. The food is fresh and cooked to order. This counter is a good height for my wheelchair and my wheelchair had no problem getting around inside.
The other side is where you can show the staff which kind of homemade fudge or flavor of salt water taffy you want. She will weigh it and price it and then you pay her. I’ve been coming here for many years and the people who work here have always been very courteous and kind. The owner recently gave me a ‘Kenny’s Salt Water & Taffy’ tee shirt since my name is Kenny too!
Outside there are plastic tables you can sit at to enjoy your food. The tables can’t be moved for they are bolted to the ground. This is to keep them stable in case a strong wind or bad storm hits this area. The tables are a little short for my Power wheelchair but my manual wheelchair fits just fine. The tables do have umbrellas so you can escape from the heat of the sun and this area also has a glass windshield to protect you from a strong ocean wind.
I give Kenny’s Salt Water Taffy FOUR STARS. In order to earn the other Star they would just need to install an automatic door. As far as the staff and the food, I give them Five Stars because the staff are always very friendly, helpful and courteous and the food, fudge, salt water taffy and ice cream is always delicious. It’s probably why they’ve been around for so long! I also love the name of the place!

Hi David, I agree that Kenny’s Salt Water and Taffy food is great but I don’t work here. My name happens to be Kenny too but I just wrote a wheelchair accessibiity review of the place. You can call them at the number above and they can let you know if they take online orders! Kenny

I love Kenny’s, I have been going there since I was 2 and WISH they were open all year round. BEST hot dogs EVER!

So glad to hear you are open for the season again. I have been going to your place since I was born for my family lived in Middleboro and we often went to Onset. I now live in Virginia but always try to come by if we get to the Cape. We’ll be headed your way on July 9th or 10th. Cannot wait!!!! What I always loved were your popcorn bars. The ultimate best. Southern people always wanted to know what is a popcorn bar so when I would come to the Cape I would buy them and bring them back here. Do you still make them???

Arriving a couple of hours early in Fall River, MA for the 46th and Final WWII PT Boat Reunion and Memorial Services onboard the Battleship Massachusetts, I decided to go east and see some of the MA beaches. It so happened that I turned south down the road towards Onset Beach, simply because I liked the name – and wanted to see what was there.
Finding the pier and bay a beautiful surrounding and the people there engaging, I noticed a sign “Kenny’s”. Looked like a good enough place to get out of the sun.
Stepping inside on the hot 4th of July Sunday, I looked around and marvelled at the place. Someone asked me: “First time here?” Guess it was obvious. Seeing my mouth starting to water, two college students were eager to serve me, and did so cheerfully. With effortless smiles, I found their personalities to be contagious as the whole place was filled with such dutiful and friendly employees. They truly were enjoying themselves, and I assumed they were also getting paid! Pretty good deal. This short visit here at Kenny’s proved to be one of the highlights of my trip to RI & MA.
Coming from OK, being born in MS and having lived in TX, I suppose I stood out like a pig out of it’s blanket when I opened my mouth, but no worries… I visited for a few moments with one of the girls and now regret that I don’t recall her name. In the fall of 2010, she was going to be a sophomore studying Psychology at a New Hampshire university. I’m thinking that I did a pretty good job of making selections from the broad array of taffy for my grandkids, but was having a bit of trouble making a choice from the chocolate side. The wheels in my brain were turning, but were needing some oil as I contemplated my options. What do I do; how can I possibly choose? I can’t take too much in my steaming car, and I can’t (shouldn’t) eat it all at one sitting! The NH student solved the dilemna for me – giving me a taste of the 4 or 5 that I had ‘narrowed’ down to. I was grateful, and the chocolate cashew candy likewise was great!
Everything was delicious and my grandkids in NC,OK and TX were impressed by all of the colors and flavors of the taffy. There is indeed color and flavor at Kenny’s – of all kinds. Keep up the good ‘work’, and thanks for good memories!
