landfall-restaurant-78.jpgAfter visiting Woods Hole Science Aquarium my aunt and mom treated my friends and me to lunch at Landfall Restaurant. Landfall Restaurant is open from April to November; it’s one of many restaurants located at the Village of Woods Hole. Parking is very limited in Woods Hole and this is the ONLY restaurant we saw that offers FREE PARKING  with validation. I was pleased to find this restaurant fully wheelchair accessible.

Landfall Restaurant is located on the waterfront next to the  Steamship Authority Fleet which provides ferry service from Woods Hole to the islands of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. While dining here you can see a great view of Martha’s Vineyard. There are different forms of transportation you can take to get to the restaurant; by car, bus, trolley, bike or boat. There’s a live webcam on their website with a view of the waterfront.  You can view it at http://www.woodshole.com/landfall/webcam.htm .

The entry doors are not automatic but they are kept wide open making entry in my wheelchair easy. There’s an outdoor patio that’s wheelchair accessible with tables of a perfect height. It was a rainy day so we didn’t sit here. A large lobster tank is located on this patio; you can pick your own live lobster to have cooked for you. The hostess who greeted us was very friendly, courteous and kind.

The dining room is spacious with plenty of room to maneuver a wheelchair between the tables. All the tables are of a good height for my wheelchair to fit comfortably underneath. There is a great veiw of the water you can see while sitting at all tables. The bar is NOT wheelchair accessible for it is too high. Lighting might be an issue for us with visual impairment for it is a little dark inside this restaurant. The waitress was very courteous, kind and sensitive; she kindly took the time to listen to and understand my lunch order.

Th e restroom is spacious and wheelchair accessible. It meets all ADA requirements except the pipes underneath the sink are not covered. Also the paper towel dispenser and soap dispenser are set too high and out of my reach.

I give Landfall Restaurant FOUR STARS for wheelchair accessibility. In order to earn the Fifth Star, they would simply need to lower a section of the bar to a wheelchair accessible height; cover the pipes under the accessible sink in the restroom; lower the restroom’s soap and towel dispensers; and add more lighting. I give the employees, service and food FIVE STARS!
