lir-noacesspub-003.jpgWhile traveling in Boston this past Monday, we came upon Lir Irish Pub & Restaurant. We thought since it was the day before Saint Patrick’s Day, it would be fun to stop in for some lunch. We were very disappointed to discover this Irish establishment does not have any accessible seating.

no-access-001.jpgLir Irish Pub & Restaurant is located on Boylston Street in a busy area of Boston. Parking is difficult to find, yet we did find a parking space located close to Lir. The entry doors are not automatic, yet they are wide enough to fit my chair through with ease. Once inside, we saw a bar that is not accessible because it is too high, as most bars are. We then saw only tall bar style tables that are all way to high for me to sit at, as you can see in this picture.

no-accesspub-002.jpgWe asked if there were any accessible tables and were told the accessible tables are all located in an area by the other end of the bar. Wow, we thought, this is going to be a lot of fun; we were looking forward to ordering some corn beef and cabbage. We arrived in this rear section; we saw all of the tables that appeared to be accessible. Only problem was that I couldn’t access this area, for there is a step that my chair couldn’t get up to get to a table :<)

The restrooms are not wheelchair accessible. They are located on the second floor, which is not accessible for there is no elevator.

My friends and I decided not to stay because there is no accessible seating.  We then went to Pour House Bar & Grille, which we found is a very wheelchair friendly Irish bar and grill; it is also located on Boyslton Street; and we all enjoyed a great corn beef and cabbage meal at Pour House.

I give Lir Irish Pub & Restaurant ZERO STARS for wheelchair accessibility. In order to earn any stars, they would at least need to replace a few of the high bar style tables with accessible tables or place a ramp to the section that has accessible tables, so a person in a wheelchair can sit and enjoy a meal.
