Last week Tony, Amanda and I went to Logan International Airport to pick up my very good friends Ric and Douglas who were returning from a trip to Brazil. Before I left I made a sign so that Ric and Douglas would be able to spot us amongst the crowd. I was very pleased to find Logan wheelchair friendly and accessible.
I headed to “Arrival-Delta” which was at terminal “A”. We parked in the Central parking garage which provides access to all the terminals. There is a parking lot just for handicap parking.
I followed the signs to terminal “A” where the entrance has double automatic sliding doors. These are my favorite kind of automatic doors for as soon as you approach the doors slide wide open.
Logan International Airport is very spacious and wheelchair accessible; you will have no problem getting around; there are many signs guiding you directly where you need to go.
I took the elevator to the 4th level; the elevator is spacious and has plenty of room for my friends and me to fit. If we had luggage there would be plenty of room for it too!
This level bought us to a sky bridge equipped with an automatic sidewalk that I was able to utilize while sitting in my wheelchair. It was great using it. I was going faster than people walking on the side of me.
Finally, I got to the arrival terminal located conveniently by the luggage claim. There are TV screens up high and some that are lower for wheelchair-seated passengers.
With time to spare, I got myself a Dunkin Donuts coffee. The cashier counter is of a good height for me and I found it easy to purchase my coffee. The employees were courteous, kind and friendly.
Looking around, I saw many places you can shop and all are wheelchair accessible. All have wide open doorways so entering is easy. All cashier counters I saw are of a perfect wheelchair accessible height!
What got my attention the most was a dog pen that you can keep your dog in under your supervision. I thought, how cool this is that Logan International Airport provides Man’s best friend” a place at the airport called a “Petport”
The restrooms are all spacious, wheelchair accessible and fully ADA compliant; with state of the art soap and hand dryers; the handicap stall is spacious with safety rails; and the pipes under the accessible sink are covered as is ADA required.
People walking by me admired my ‘Welcome Home’ sign that I made for
Ric and Douglas. Well from around the corner came my two good friends Ric and Douglas. They spotted us and they looked great. It was nice to see them back home again for they were in Brazil for three weeks which is a long time.
I give Logan International Airport – Terminal A FIVE STARS for wheelchair accessibility. I have not been here in a long time and seeing all the revisions made to accommodate persons in wheelchair makes me very happy :>)
