After visiting the Peacemaker – The Twelve Tribes Tall Ship and Mayflower II and enjoying some ice cream at Mayflower Take-Out in Plymouth, my mom, friends and I headed back to our van. We passed by Mayflower General Store that is located on the historic Plymouth Harbor waterfront and noticed it is NOT wheelchair accessible for it has steps leading to the entry door. This store is a general store which sells souvenirs, salt water taffy plus much more.

My mom went inside to ask if there is a wheelchair accessible entrance. She told me the cashier asked the manager who said “no”. Then the cashier kindly offered to help lift my wheelchair up the steps. My mom explained lifting my chair up the steps would be difficult and unsafe. The woman explained it is an old store so it doesn’t need to be accessible! Well it might be an old store but it sells modern day products to current day customers in this year of 2009!!

I give Mayflower General Store in Plymouth ZERO STARS for wheelchair accessibility. In order to earn any Stars, they would need to install a wheelchair accessible ramp leading to the main entry door.
