I went to McDonald’s at the Sagamore rotary to meet with Kenny & Company to learn what to look for when reviewing a place for accessibility. Since I was here, I decided to do a review of McDonald’s at Sagamore as I came across some interesting obstacles. There is no automatic door opener to open the outside door. Once you go through the first door, there is a button to open a second door that is automatic “how redundant”. But then, when leaving, there is no automatic door opener for that same door. Also, I have a motorized wheelchair and the entrance way is very small and narrow. It took me several minutes to maneuver my chair back and forth to get into McDonald’s. I felt very embarrassed about this.
Once inside McDonald’s, the aisles are spacious enough for me to get around. The tables are big enough and they are at the perfect height for me. I do wish that there was a little more space so that if I were with my friends in wheelchairs I could sit facing them instead of side by side.
I give McDonald’s FOUR STARS for accessibility. They can earn the other ONE STAR by installing automatic doors openers to the outside doors and an open switch button to open the doors for the inside. McDonald’s can also widen their doorways making it easier for wheelchairs to get through.
