melodytent_1.jpgI went to the Melody Tent of Cape Cod to see the ABBA concert.  I’m going to give you a little bit of information on how handicapped accessible it is. I am going to start with parking.  There was handicapped parking but it was really very crowded because the ushers had everyone parking right behind each other.  But one of the ushers made sure that no one parked behind us while my friends were helping me out of the van.  The parking lot is made of gravel and dirt which makes it a little hard for someone in a wheelchair to be pushed across.   The ramps to the entrance were at ground level so it was easy to go through the entrance.

Once inside the entrance, there was plenty of room to move about without interfering with anything.  The handicap seating was in a very good spot, the view of the stage was great!  Another great feature the melody tent has is that the stage spins around.  All of the concession stands are outside and then you go inside the tent for the show and I had no trouble doing any of this in my chair.  The one problem I did have is that if you happen to leave the paved walkways, everything else is gravel so my chair was20very hard to push through that.

The restrooms are handicap accessible although to be honest we didn’t really take the time to peak inside.  You should have seen the lines of people waiting to use the restrooms!  The staff were very friendly and helpful.  Every so often the staff would come and make sure we had everthing we needed; they were great!  The lighting was ok for the visually impaired although it was a concert so it was slightly dim.   There wasn’t much air circulation in the tent which made it very warm in the tent.  We didn’t have a problem getting out when the concert was over.

I give the Cape Cod Melody Tent FOUR STARS for handicapped accessibility.  They could earn the last star if they paved the parking lot and areas surrounding walkways or at least making it easier for those of us in wheelchairs.  I am very sorry there are no pictures in this review, but the melody tent does not allow pictures to be taken inside the tent.
