Menauhant Beach: http://www.morebeach.com/cape-cod-beaches/menauhant-beach-falmouth.html

menauhant-beach-15.jpgLast week my parents, roommate and our friends checked out a few beaches in Falmouth. We wanted to find an accessible beach close to Captain’s Quarters in Falmouth because my parents were staying there for a few nights. Falmouth Heights Beach is right across the street from the hotel yet it is not wheelchair accessible. The first beach we checked out was Menauhant Beach. We found it wheelchair accessible yet decided against coming here for it lacks some of the amenities the other town beaches have.

Menauhant Beach does not have a concession stand; there is only mobile ice cream truck which comes by. Loaner Beach Wheelchairs are available if you call to order one in advance. There are two parking lots at this beach. Parking in either lot is $10 for non residents. Both parking lots consist of sand which makes for a difficult wheel if you are in a standard wheelchair. If you plan on coming to this beach I advise you  call ahead and ask for a loaner beach wheelchair

The 1st Parking Lot has two handicap parking spaces located close to a Portable Trailer which has Restrooms. The trailer is wheelchair accessible with a ramp leading to the entry doors of the Men’s and Women’s restrooms; the restrooms are wheelchair accessible. The beach is right in front of the parking lot. There is NO wooden ramp/walkway leading to the beach from this parking lot.   An outdoor shower is located next to the trailer; it is wheelchair accessible with a wooden walkway leading to it.

The 2nd Parking Lot has two handicap parking places located right in front of a wooden accessible ramp/walkway leading to the beach. There are no restrooms in this parking lot. Instead there are two Port-A-Johns and one is wheelchair accessible with a small ramp leading to the door. There is good wheelchair access to the beach from this parking lot via the wooden ramp/walkway. The beach is located right in front of the parking lot and looks absolutely beautiful. The sand is fine and soft and the ocean is clean and beautiful here. It is not usually crowded so it is a nice quiet beach to come.

We chose instead to go to  Surf Drive Beach because it has Snack Bar, a Bathhouse with Restrooms and an accessible Changing Room stall.

I give Menauhant Beach FOUR STARS for wheelchair accessibility. In order to earn the Fifth Star they would need to pave a section of the parking lot from the the handicap parking spaces to the wooden access walkway leading to the beach; and place an accessible wooden walkway at the access area to the beach in the 1st parking lot.
