My friends and I visited the Methuen U.S. Post Office while traveling in Methuen to see how wheelchair accessible it is. We especially like to review U.S. Post Offices since we have discovered that not all U.S. Post Offices provide access to the disabled. We strongly believe that all U. S. Post Offices should provide full and equal access to all U.S. Citizens.
Methuen U.S. Post Office is partially wheelchair accessible. There are handicap parking spaces close by and a wide wheelchair accessible ramp that leads to the main entry door. You will need help with opening the entry door for it is not automatic yet it is wide enough to fit any size wheelchair.
Once inside, I noticed that the customer service counter is not wheelchair accessible for it is too high for most wheelchairs. I was happy to see that this post office did have a wheelchair accessible document service counter where you can fill out your postal mailing slips. The letter slot where you can place your stamped mail in is of a wheelchair accessible height that you can reach easily.
I give Methuen U.S. Post Office THREE STARS for wheelchair accessibility. In order to earn the other Two Stars, they would need to install an automatic entry door and lower a portion of the customer service counter to a wheelchair accessible height so that a person in a wheelchair can independently enter this post office and complete all their postal transactions.
