When my friends and I were driving by the Middleboro State Police barracks last week we noticed the front stairs are gone and a lot of construction going on. We were curious to see if the construction included a wheelchair accessible ramp.
We stopped and spoke with three very nice construction workers and the really nice Chief of Police. We were told renovations funded by Homeland Security are being done at this State Police barracks and a few other State Police barracks in Massachusetts. New renovations will include a Wheelchair Accessible Ramp plus other structures that will make the barracks more secure.
I think it’s wonderful this State Police barracks will soon be wheelchair accessible because before the renovations there was NO wheelchair access; not that I would ever have the need to be brought here :>)
We’re not sure if the Homeland Security funding is from the State or Federal Government. We’re also not sure where the other State Police barracks under renovations are located. Once we find out we’ll try to visit some of the other State Police barracks under construction to see the wheelchair accessible ramps.
The project at Middleboro State Police Barracks will be completed sometime in January or February. Temporarily the front entrance is closed; there is a call button you can push to speak with an officer; an officer will come outside to speak with you and take you inside if you have police business. The Police Chief took the time to come out to speak with me and he was very friendly and kind. He even invited me back to check out the wheelchair accessible ramp when the project is complete which I look forward to.
The front entrance will soon be temporarily reopened for Toys For Tots program. The 2009 “Toys for Tots” season marks the 25th year that the Massachusetts State Police Department has partnered with the Marine Corps for the administration of this program in Massachusetts.
With Christmas soon approaching we HOPE everyone remembers to give a toy for the “Toys For Tots” program. You can drop off your toy at any Massachusetts State Police barracks. To read more specific details about the kinds of toys they’re collecting, simply click on - Toys For Tots.
I give the Middleboro State Police barracks FIVE STARS for wheelchair accessibility!!
