mr-peeps-001.jpgLast night, my friends and I went to Mr. Peepers Ice Cream and were disappointed to find that it is not very wheelchair accessible. There are no handicap parking spaces in Mr. Peeper’s parking lot. 

mr-peeps-002.jpgEntering Mr. Peepers is difficult in my wheelchair for the door is not automatic and there is a lip that is difficult to wheel over for it is approximately one inch high. My friends and I ordered our ‘low fat’ ice cream but I found it difficult to pay because there is an ice cream cooler I had to stretch across to hand the cashier my money. If it wasn’t for the cooler I would have no problem since the counter is at a good height for a person in a wheelchair. There are no public restrooms.

mr-peeps-003.jpgThe cashier told me that Mr. Peepers Ice Cream is open all year round. There is no indoor seating but there are picnic tables outdoors. Since the weather was unusually warm for this time of year my friends and I enjoyed our ice cream outside. The picnic table is not accessible because my wheelchair couldn’t fit under the table to eat comfortably but I did enjoy the ice cream!
 
I give Mr. Peepers ONE STAR for wheelchair accessibility. In order to earn the other Four Stars they would need to: place a handicap parking space in their parking lot; install an automatic entry door; remove the lip and replace it with a wheelchair accessible threshold at the entry door and place an accessible picnic table in the outdoor eating area. It would be a plus for all if they placed some tables inside since they are open throughout the year.
