muckeysliquor1post.jpgI went to Muckeys Liquor this week to pick up a few wine coolers for a small party I’m having for some family and friends and was disappointed to find it is not very wheelchair accessible.

muckeyliqor1.jpgThere are two handicap parking spaces conveniently located right in front of the entry doors. The entry doors are double doors and not automatic so you will need help with opening the doors. I was in my manual wheelchair so Josh, my friend pushed my chair while Tony held the door open for us. My wheelchair barely made it through with just one door open and if my wheelchair was any wider, I would have needed the second door open for me too.

muckeyligquir3.jpgThe aisles are all very narrow and tight but my wheelchair did squeeze through. The wine coolers are located in a cooler at the far end right side if the store. I couldn’t access these coolers for there are many cases of liquor piled up that block access for me. My friends were able to walk around the cases and get to the cooler and get the ‘Blue Hawaiian’ wine cooler that I requested.

We headed back to the front of the store where the cashier counter is located. The cashier counter is too high for me to reach so my friends completed my transaction for me.  I also noticed that the ATM/Credit Card transaction machine is located at the front edge of the counter which would be reachable if the counter was lower.

I give Muckeys Liquor TWO STARS for wheelchair accessibility. They can earn the other Three Stars if they install automatic entry doors, widen the aisles, remove the piled up case of liquor at the ends of the aisles and lower a portion of the cashier counter to a height that is wheelchair accessible.
