I love watching Bluebirds and other beautiful songbirds nest in my yard! It’s a delightful and accessible hobby. It’s also incredible to see baby songbirds born and watch their parents care for them so well.
I have a trail of 4 bluebird houses in my yard and all are accessible for they are 3-5 feet in height. This year Bluebirds, Tufted Titmouse and Tree Swallows have nested in bluebird houses in my yard. Yesterday my 19 day old baby Tree Swallows fledged their nest and my friends and I posted a video of my beautiful Tree Swallow Nest, Eggs and Babies.
Tree Swallows are another insect eating songbird who love open fields. They also like to nest in bluebird houses. Tree Swallows have a greenish sheen and some iridescent green-blue feathers on top and their under parts are white. It almost looks as if they’re wearing a tuxedo. Tree Swallow parents not as trusting of humans as Bluebirds and often dive at you when you check their nests. I don’t think they would hurt you and are just protecting their babies!
Tree Swallows compete with Bluebirds for nest houses. If they both have a nest box, set within 5 to 25 feet from one another then they will both be able to safely nest and even watch out and protect each other’s nests and babies. We placed some extra boxes on my trail for both birds to safely nest. You can read more about Tree Swallows @ http://www.sialis.org/tres.htm.

I love all songbirds and having a trail of bluebird houses helps to make it more accessible and safer for songbirds to nest.
Hope you enjoy our video of my Tree Swallows Nest, Eggs & Babies in my yard!!

Thanks Kenny for sharing the video of the tree swallows. Love the fast forward part with you guys in the field avoiding the diving parents. My deck got stained this week. On the weekend I will mount my bluebird nest. Yeah!

Hi Kenny
Love your video! I wish some people were such good parents as your birds. The world would be a better place!
