After my workout at
Healthtrax Fitness Center, Kate, Ric and I traveled to
TD Bank North in Plymouth; they had to do some banking for our home and it’s the closet bank where CSI does their banking. While we were in Plymouth we stopped at the Ninety Nine Restaurant for a bite to eat. I was very disappointed to find this place only partially wheelchair accessible.
When I entered the parking lot I noticed there are three handicapped parking spaces right in front. I saw all three handicap parking signs lying on the ground; it appeared they had been knocked over; for how long, I’m not sure. There are wheelchair accessible symbols painted on the pavement.
ADA requires Handicap Parking signs must be permanently affixed to a pole that is below grade (installed in the ground) or they can be permanently affixed to a building if they are within 10’ of the front of the HP space and installed at a height of between 5’-8’ from the ground.
The wheelchair access slope to the sidewalk is right in front of the three handicap parking spaces; a wide cement walkway leads to the entry door. The single entry door is wide enough to fit my chair, yet the door is not automatic. I was in my manual chair today for that is the one I take to the gym, so Kate held the door open for me while Ric pushed my manual chair inside.
Once inside, I was warmly greeted by a hostess who brought us to a large round table in the dining room; this table is a perfect height for my wheelchair. I noticed this table the only fully wheelchair accessible table in this restaurant. There are two other tables that are partially wheelchair accessible booths; one side is a permanently stationed booth seat and the other side has removable chairs.
If you dined with friends who are also in a wheelchair, you would not be able to eat at these partially accessible booths. All the other booths in the dining room are not wheelchair accessible because my wheelchair does not fit under the table on the end of the booth; even if my wheelchair fit, I would stick out into the aisle, blocking access for all others.
The seating in the lounge is not wheelchair accessible for the bar is too high for my wheelchair; all the tables in the lounge are high bar-style tables, which are all too high for my wheelchair.
Nick, our waiter was very friendly, kind and courteous. Our food arrived pretty quickly; we all ordered a luncheon special of several choices for $ 6.99. The food was quick and tasty and at a good price too.
The rest rooms are spacious, wheelchair accessible and fully ADA compliant except the pipes under the accessible sinks are not covered, as is ADA required.
Kenny & co give the Ninety Nine (99) Restaurant in Plymouth TWO STARS for wheelchair accessibility. In order to earn the other Three Stars, they would need to reinstall the handicap parking signs in front of the handicap parking spaces; install an automatic entry door so a person in a wheelchair can enter independently; place a few more wheelchair accessible tables in the dining room; lower a section of the bar to a wheelchair accessible height; place a few wheelchair accessible tables in the lounge; and cover the pipes under the accessible sink in the restroom.
