ninety-nine-restaurant-in-charlestown-008.jpgAfter attending a Disability Outreach Committee meeting at the Office of the Democratic Party in Charlestown, my mom offered to take Tony, Ric and I to lunch; of course we accepted with pleasure :>) We had lunch at the Ninety Nine Restaurant located in the Bunker Hill Shopping plaza and found it wheelchair accessible with only the lounge having a few obstacles.

ninety-nine-restaurant-in-charlestown007.jpgThere are two handicap parking spaces located in front of the entrance of this Ninety Nine Restaurant. Wheelchair access to the sidewalk is clearly marked with bright blue paint and a wheelchair symbol. The entry doors are not automatic so Ric held the door open while I drove my Permobil C350 Power Chair inside.

ninety-nine-restaurant-in-charlestown-0031.jpgThe lobby is spacious with plenty of room to maneuver my chair. The lounge located in front of the lobby has NO accessible seating unless you have a wheelchair with a seat that can be elevated like my Permobil C350 Power Chair; the bar is too tall and neither of the 2 booths located here are accessible for there is a step to get up to them.

ninety-nine-charlestown-step-to-booths-010.jpgThere is a small bar style countertop on the side corner wall that is a little lower, yet access here is limited for it is set too close to the bar without enough room to fit my chair here. Flat screen TVs are located on the wall yet with NO accessible seating you will not be able to view them in this room.

ninety-nine-restaurant-in-charlestown-014.jpgA kind hostess greeted us and graciously showed us to our table. There are mostly booths inside this restaurant that are not wheelchair accessible; yet there are 3 tables that are accessible because one side of the booth seat is removed where a person in a wheelchair can comfortably fit. Our waitress was friendly and kind. She looked directly at me while listening to me place my order. The food was delicious and the service was quick.

The restrooms are spacious, wheelchair accessible and fully ADA compliant. The soap and hand towel dispenser are easily in my reach.

I give the Ninety Nine Restaurant in Charlestown THREE STARS for wheelchair accessibility. In order to earn the other Two Stars they would need to install an automatic entry door so a person in a wheelchair can enter and exit independently; place an accessible table in the lounge; and lower a section of the bar to an accessible height so a person in a wheelchair can enjoy a meal or a drink in the lounge.
