My staff and I went to the Olive Garden in Hyannis for dinner because it is one of my favorite Italian restaurants. So I thought it would be nice to let you know how wheelchair accessible it is. I will start with the parking; they have handicap parking very close to the entrance of the Olive Garden.
There are ground level ramps which make it very easy for someone in a wheelchair to get to the door. You would run into a problem if you were in a wheelchair and alone. It would be very hard to get in because the building does not have automatic doors. There is one set of double doors and if you were to open one side of the doors there wouldn’t be a problem fitting a wheelchair through.
Once inside, there was plenty of room to move around in my wheelchair without being in anyone’s way. The tables were at a great height for my chair to fit under. The lighting was great for the visually impaired and I don’t think there would be a problem for someone who is visually impaired to read the menus. Now on to the restrooms, the doors were perfectly wide enough for my chair to fit through. There were handicapped stalls with grab bars and cover around the piping under the accessible sinks.
Now about the service, the staff was very friendly and treated me like everyone else. They all made eye contact with me when I was ordering my dinner and they did not look at my staff to see what I wanted. The amount of food they gave you was enough to make you feel very full and satisfied when you were done.
I give the Olive Garden in Hyannis FOUR STARS for handicapped accessibility. They could earn the Fifth Star by installing automatic doors.
