While Kellie, Kevin and I were traveling in Plainville we stopped at Panera Bread for a bite to eat. I just love Panera Bread’s delicious fresh sandwiches. I found this Panera Bread only partially wheelchair accessible just like all the other Panera Breads I’ve been to.

There are two sets of entry doors you will need help with opening for neither set of doors is automatic.

The countertop where you place your order is of a good accessible height for my wheelchair. The cashier was friendly, courteous and kind. The self-serve coffee counter is of an accessible height as is the self-serve soda fountain.

The counter where you pick-up your order is NOT wheelchair accessible for it is way too high for any size wheelchair; even a chair with an elevating seat like my Permobil C350 Power Chair would not provide adequate access to this high countertop. The employees behind the counter can’t even see me because the top of my head doesn’t even reach the countertop while seated in my manual chair. This prevents all wheelers from independently getting their order.

Inside has some booths  plus plenty of wheelchair accessible tables of a perfect height with plenty of room to wheel between the tables. Outdoor seating is accessible and all tables are of a perfect wheelchair accessible height with umbrellas for those who wish to escape from the sun …. not that we’ve had to worry about the sun lately for it seems to have disappeared :>)!!

Restrooms are wheelchair accessible, spacious and fully ADA compliant.

I give Panera Bread in Plainville THREE STARS for wheelchair accessibility. In order to earn the other Two Stars, they would need to install automatic entry doors so a person in a wheelchair can enter independently; and lower the height of the counter where you pick-up your order to a wheelchair accessible height!!
