The Traveling Wheelchair

After my roommate, friends and I brought our van in for a minor repair, we went to Peaceful Meadows for an ice cream; it is located right next to the service station. Upon arriving, I was disappointed to find all three customer service windows are approximately 48″ high and not wheelchair accessible.

Two handicap parking spaces are conveniently located right up front on both sides of the customer service windows. All three customer service windows are enclosed during the winter months; the doors, located on both sides are very narrow; the turn to get to the service windows is very difficult to maneuver.

I was in my manual chair today because I went to the gym; my chair barely fit through the doorway; it was a very tight turn but Ric, my friend  managed to get me inside.

Josh, my roommate had no problem placing his order for his ice cream, for he is not physically disabled and dependent on a wheelchair like me. My friends offered to place my order, but I chose not to have an ice cream today. One reason being was of my disappointment that the countertop was way too high; my other reason was because I am trying to stick to my diet and didn’t want to put on weight after I worked out so hard at the gym. Matt, my personal trainer would be very proud of my decision :>)

The ice cream is homemade and always very good at this Meadows.

I give Peaceful Meadows in Middleboro Two STARS for wheelchair accessibility. In order to earn the other Three Stars, they would simply need to widen one of the doorways during winter months; and lower one of the customer service counters so a person in a wheelchair can purchase their ice cream independently!
