saint-vincents-001.jpgDuring these tough economic times, more people are shopping at thrift shops and food banks. Yesterday, my mom, friends and I traveled to ‘Pennies From Heaven, a St. Vincent thrift shop to donate some clothes we all gathered. I was pleased to find this thrift shop fully wheelchair accessible.

penniefromheavensign.jpgThe vision of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul “is to embrace the world in a network of charity.” You can visit their website listed above to find out all about the services they provide; find a thrift store or food bank near you; find where to donate food, clothing or furniture; or where you can volunteer your time.

Pennies From Heaven in Taunton store hours are: Monday Closed; Tuesday thru Friday 10:00 AM - 4:30 PM; Saturday 10:00 AM - 1:30 PM; Sunday Closed.

penniesfromheaven01.jpgParking spaces are conveniently located in front of the entrance. You will need help opening the entry door for it is not automatic. Once inside, we asked a very nice lady where we donate the clothes we brought. She explained that donated items are only accepted earlier in the day. We asked if St. Vincent has a thrift store closer to our home and were pleased to find out there is on right in my hometown of Middleboro. We plan on bringing the clothes to that store. We recommend you call first to see the time of day the thrift store near you accepts donations.

saint-vincents-011.jpgWe then decided to shop around. All items are in very good condition and all are neatly on display. They have new & used clothing, furniture, housewares, toys and much more! Prices of all items are very reasonable plus you get another 50% off the ticketed price. They even have beautiful wedding gowns for sale. These were on sale with another 75% off the price.

saint-vincents-012.jpgI found no problem wheeling my chair throughout the shop. Two fitting rooms where you can try on clothes are located in the rear of the store. Both are large enough to fit my wheelchair with no problem.

saint-vincents-010.jpgA food bank is in a room off to the side. It is wheelchair accessible as is the countertop. You can see the roped off areas for the lines of people who come here to get food. The shelves look a little bare so if you have some extra canned goods, you may want to donate them to this food bank.

saint-vincents-007.jpgThe cashier counter is of a perfect height for my wheelchair. I had no problem purchasing a small statue of an American eagle that caught my eye. The two women who work here are very kind, courteous and helpful.

I give Pennies From Heaven-St Vincent FOUR STARS for wheelchair accessibility. I give FIVE STARS to The Society of St. Vincent de Paul for the wonderful things they do to help the needy and the poor.
