My friends Ric, Tony and I traveled to Plymouth today for we had to drop off some paper work at the CSI office. I decided to check out the Petsmart located in the Shops at Five Plaza in Plymouth as I wanted to buy some wild birdseed for my
Bluebirds plus other beautiful birds that come on my deck. My friend Ric is also thinking of buying himself a pet bird. I sure hope he knows what he’s getting into :>) I was very pleased to find Petsmart both wheelchair and pet friendly!
The parking lot has plenty of handicap parking spaces right in front of the store. When entering the store we all thought it was cool to see they have a ‘OOPS- Pet Clean up Station’ for your pets toileting needs; we all thought it was funny but very useful for pet owners too.
Both set of entry doors are my favorite double sliding doors; as soon as you approach they open wide. Once inside I loved the spacious aisles and the easy to reach shelves.
I had no problem reaching the wild bird seed for my birdfeeders. My friend Ric spotted the section with live birds and we all went over to check them out. The birds are all easy to see from my wheelchair and the lighting was excellent. I had no problems seeing all the birds they had here today. I also looked over some of the other pets and they were all easy for me to see while seated in my wheelchair.
We all liked one bird in particular called a Green Cheeked Conure. It was both hand fed and weaned! It seems Ric wasn’t ready to buy his Pet Bird just yet; but he really liked this bird a lot. If he buys it, I think we’ll name him ‘Sonny’. LOL :>)
All the employees at Petsmart were all very kind and asked if I needed any help. I had no problem paying for my wild birdseed for the cashier counter is of a perfect wheelchair accessible height; I was very pleased to see they have a sliding counter top to make transactions more accessible for persons in wheelchairs.
I give Petsmart at Shops at Five Plaza FIVE STARS for wheelchair accessibility.

Hi Kenny,
The little pull out chack writing shelf does not meet the intent of the ADA or section 7 of 521CMR. I, & other advocates as well, consider this a form of segregation from the common use spaces of the general public. The design of an Accessible service counter shall be identicle to the service counter provided to the general public, but no higher than 36″ and at least 36″ in width.
If it is technologically not feasable to create the appropriate and Inclusive Access, then a variance application can be submitted to the MA Dept. of Public Safety AAB office @ One Ashburton Place in Boston.
