Yesterday, my friends and I went to Boston for my appointment at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. After my appointment, we traveled a short distance to grab some lunch at Pour House Bar and Grill, an Irish Pub. It felt wonderful having lunch at an Irish Pub on the day before Saint Patrick’s Day, especially since I am half Irish, as my mom is 100% Irish and my dad is 100% Polish.
The Pour House Bar and Grill is located on Boylston Street, a very busy area of Boston, where parking is limited and sometimes hard to find. I guess the luck of the Irish was with me this day for we found a parking space conveniently close to this Irish Pub.
The outdoor sign above the entry door had a ‘Mc’ in front of ‘Pour House’, probably because it was the day before Saint Patrick’s Day. So we called it “McPour House” !
I had no problems entering because the entry doors are automatic :>) Once inside, we saw a bar that is not accessible because it is too high and the stools are permanently mounted to the floor. Most bars are not accessible or required to be accessible under ADA. Yet, I have seen a few bars at some places that have a lower section that is accessible.
There are mostly booths inside this pub. There is one very small table, located in the front of the pub. A waitress kindly directed us to a small booth, in which the seat was removable, so I could fit at this table. The aisles are wide so my chair did not block access to others. This was the only table we saw that a person in a wheelchair could sit. The table was of a good height for my chair and the lighting was adequate.
Many flat screen T.V.s are mounted on the wall and easy for me to see from my chair. There is a interesting statue of a woman mounted high on the wall that I thought was cool.
When I went to the restroom, I saw the Men’s room, with a very narrow doorway. I then saw a separate wheelchair accessible restroom. This restroom is spacious and fully ADA compliant.
I really enjoyed myself. Our food and service was great. I will definitely come back.
I give the Pour House Bar and Grill FOUR STARS for wheelchair accessibility. In order to earn the Fifth Star, they would simply need to add a few more accessible tables. I give, Jessica our waitress FIVE STARS for being sensitive, kind, respectful and making my stay memorable.
