008pru.jpgThe Prudential Center is very wheelchair accessible. Handicap parking spaces are available in the Public Parking Garage located at the Prudential Center but it is very expensive. My friends and I try to find a parking space close by on the street at a parking meter for it is FREE for persons in vehicles with handicap placards. The “T” takes you directly to the Prudential Center too. All entry doors leading to the Prudential Center are automatic and you will just have to push a button. Escalators and an elevator are located inside of all the entries that will take you to the main level where shops, restaurants and a food court are located in the Prudential Center.

011pru.jpgI find it very easy to maneuver my wheelchair inside the Prudential Center for the area is wide and spacious. Shops and Restaurants located at the Prudential Center have all their entry doors open during business hours so entry to all the shops and restaurants is very easy. The Sheraton Hotel is located here as well as the Skywalk Observatory and Top of the Hub Restaurant on the top level where you can see all of Boston. Tickets for Boston Duck Tours are available in the Prudential Center at a ticket booth located across from Barnes and Noble and the Tours leave from the Prudential outside in front of Shaws Supermarket.

013pru.jpgThe Terrace Food Court is very large and has many places you can choose from to purchase a breakfast, lunch or dinner. The counters at all of these places appear to be a good height for wheelchairs too. The tables are small round tables and a little small but my friends and I all fit with ease. I found the table height to be perfect for my wheelchair as well. Outdoor dining is available if weather permits and all the outdoor tables have umbrellas to shade you from the sun. It can get very crowded here at lunch.

018pru.jpgRestrooms are located in the rear of the Terrace Food Court and have large handicap stalls with required safety grab bars. All the sinks are wheelchair accessible but the pipes under the sinks are not covered as is now ADA required. A courtyard is located in the center of the Prudential Center and is a nice place to take a stroll along the paved walkways. A water fountain is located here and many white birch trees that will shade you from the sun.

I give the Prudential Center FOUR STARS for wheelchair accessibility. They would just need to place protective covering around the exposed pipes under the accessible sinks in the restroom to earn the Fifth Star. This is now an ADA requirement and is very inexpensive and easy to do.
