middleborough-qucik-stop-010.jpgAfter discovering that Middleboro House of Pizza is not wheelchair accessible, we went next door to Quick Stop, a convenience store that is ‘Under New Management’ to see if they sold sandwiches. To our dismay, we soon discovered that this Quick Stop is NOT wheelchair accessible either. There is a sloped brick walkway leading to the entry door yet the entry door is NOT wheelchair accessible due to a 3 ” lip at the threshold. I was disappointed to find another business in my hometown of Middleborough that is NOT wheelchair accessible.

Ric opened the door and asked the employee who was standing behind the cashier counter if there is a wheelchair accessible entrance. The employee told him, “Sorry – No”.

ez-access-threshold-ramp02.jpgIf we brought my EZ Access Threshold Ramp that came free with my EZ Access Suitcase Ramp I would have been able to access this store. The EZ Access Threshold Ramp is 36″ wide, portable, lightweight, durable and free-standing. It’s ideal for doorways and raised steps; it’s adjustable for heights ranging from ¾” to 6″ high. It’s intended for indoor or outdoor use.

qucikstop27d9.jpgOnce Again! Under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, “businesses that provide goods and services to the public are already required to remove structural barriers to access by people with disabilities when removal is “readily achievable”. A one step entrance is considered “readily achievable”. The ONLY Massachusetts city or town that I know of who enforces this is the  Cambridge Commission for Persons with Disabilities and Cambridge Human Rights Commission  due to an ‘ordinance amendment’ the Cambridge City Council unanimously passed on March 3, 2008. The town of Middleborough does not have an ordinance amendment which allows enforcement of the ADA.

I give Quick Stop in Middleborough ZERO STARS for wheelchair accessibility. In order to earn any stars they would simply need to remove the 3″ lip at the threshold of the entry door and replace it with a wheelchair accessible threshold OR place a wheelchair accessible Threshold Ramp at the entry door.
