ragsmiddleboro-zero-star-pics-040.jpgRagz, a second hand clothing store that obtained a ‘Consignment’ license from the town of Middleborough in January of 2009 is another place of business in downtown of Middleborough that is NOT wheelchair accessible; due to one small step and an inaccessible threshold at the entry door.

My mom, Tony, Ric and I all thought what a shame for we could see some cool items for sale by looking in the window of this shop.

ragz24.jpgOnce Again! Under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, “businesses that provide goods and services to the public are already required to remove structural barriers to access by people with disabilities when removal is “readily achievable”. A one step entrance is considered “readily achievable”. The ONLY Massachusetts city or town that I know of who enforces this is the  Cambridge Commission for Persons with Disabilities and Cambridge Human Rights Commission  due to an ‘ordinance amendment’ the Cambridge City Council unanimously passed on March 3, 2008. Obviously, the town of Middleborough does not enforce the ADA.

I give Ragz in Middleborough ZERO STARS for wheelchair accessibility. In order to earn any Stars, they would simply need to replace the small step with a cement slope and place an accessible threshold at the entry door. This would provide EQUAL ACCESS to ALL CITIZENS!
