mandarin-buffet-010.jpgSunday morning my Aunt Nancy came to visit me. As my morning began, it was a bit hectic as I had a late start. My furnace had a glitch and we had no heat; we waited until a repair man came to see what the problem was. After he resolved the problem, my Aunt, Tony, Jowanna, roommate Josh and I decided to go out for lunch to give some time for our home to warm up. We headed to a local restaurant called Raynham Mandarin Buffet in Raynham. We heard the Mandarin has a great choice of Chinese/Japanese/American dishes as well as a great sushi bar. I love sushi!

The parking lot is large with a few handicap parking spaces located right in front of the restaurant. It was a snow covered morning but thankfully these handicap parking spaces had the required designated wheelchair accessible sign hanging on a pole in front. These signs are required because a handicap parking space with just the painted symbol on the pavement is not seen with snow cover.

mandarin-buffet-011.jpgThe snow was cleared from the wheelchair accessible slope of the front walkway; the front entrance has two sets of automatic entry doors and neither door is automatic so you will need help with opening the doors.

mandarin-buffet-002.jpgThe hostess warmly greeted my friends and me; she kindly escorted us to a table which was of good accessible height. The Mandarin is spacious and the aisles are wide with plenty of room to maneuver your chair between tables.

We all chose the buffet. The buffet is divided into four different sections with a counter for each; the main food; the pastry; the sushi bar; and the ice cream machine. All these counters are fully accessible and of a great accessible height. I really enjoyed the sushi bar. A sushi cook was at the table to help you with any questions. There was one kind of sushi that I was not familiar with and he explained all the ingredients in it.

The restrooms are spacious, wheelchair accessible and fully ADA compliant; the faucet, soap and hand towels are easily within my reach.

The front counter where customers pay for their take-out is too high for me to use yet that did not affect me during my visit for the waitress presented the bill at the table.

I give Raynham Mandarin Buffet FOUR STARS for wheelchair accessibility. In order to earn the Fifth Star they would need to install automatic entry doors so a customer in a wheelchair can enter and exit independently; and lower the front counter where customers pick up take-out orders to an accessible height.
